Privacy Policy—Effective 01/01/2015
Thanks for reading our privacy policy. In this document, we will identify the information we collect when you use povertymobile.com and describe how we use that information. We hope you find this helpful as you make decisions about where to browse.
Basic HTTP Traffic Information
There are some bits of information contained in the hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) request made by your browser (more generally, your user agent) which are essential for us to find what you've asked for and for us to return it to you. Each time you request a page from povertymobile.com, a line like the one below (more or less the text generated for requesting this page) is written to our log files.
18.223.162.245 - - [25/Apr/2025:02:13:39 -0500] "GET /privacy-policy/ HTTP/1.1" 200 15942 "http://povertymobile-com.yea4.us/privacy-policy" "Mozilla/5.0 AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko; compatible; ClaudeBot/1.0; +claudebot@anthropic.com)"
The first bit of information, represented as four numbers between 0 and 255 separated by periods, is the internet protocol address (IP address) from which your user agent made the request. This number is necessary as it tells us where to return the information you requested. From your IP address, we can locate you with moderate precision anywhere in the world. We can also learn about the network that you are using to request a page. Your network typically reflects your internet service provider (ISP), your school, institution or corporate network or your mobile service provider's network. A quick check of your IP address suggests that you have requested this page from the following network:
ec2-18-223-162-245.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com
Your HTTP request for this page also includes information about the user agent (browser) you are using to make the request. Included with that browser information is also information about your operating system software, and, if you are using a browser on your mobile, it also typically contains hardware information such as manufacturer (free advertising!) and device model number. You are using a user agent which identifies itself as:
Mozilla/5.0 AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko; compatible; ClaudeBot/1.0; +claudebot@anthropic.com)
So, what do we do with all this information inherent in the HTTP request? First and foremost we log this information. And we keep those log files for seven years. From time to time we mine information from our log files. Typically the questions we are asking are which pages are popular, what links have brought visitors, where those visitors are from and what devices are they using. The major point of this analysis is to make sure that we are providing timely, useful and appropriate content in a form which is easily consumable.
While our site design is responsive to screen size and shape, we may, based on your reported user agent, serve different content that is tailored for your device and/or connection type.
Cookies
We may store small amounts of information on your device. These small pieces of information may hold a preference or a setting, or they may leave an identifiable marker that you have visited previously. The use of cookies is primarily to improve your experience with povertymobile.com.
Advertising
We do sell advertising space on povertymobile.com. Our primary goal with advertising is to balance the need to keep the server lights blinking with your unfettered access to our content. As a result, advertising is fully subservient to content here at povertymobile.com. You'll find one ad at the top of each page and one at the bottom—nothing to interrupt the content which is king.
The advertisements look like this.
You can interact directly with the advertisement to control how it is shown, or if it will ever be shown to you again. The AdChoices triangle at the top right will provide more information about how ads are shown and how to manage ad settings. You can also provide feedback on the nature and content of the ads you are shown. The X at the top right allows you to report advertisement abuse or immediately close (and never see again) an advertisement you do not find appreciate.
Now, advertisers are very interested in showing ads to those who are potential customers (targeted ads) rather than to just anyone, who may have no interest in their product or service. Thus, advertising networks will track your browsing behavior, well beyond povertymobile.com. If you would like more information about how ads work or would like to change tracking setting for a wide swath of the web, follow either one of these links.
Summary
